Signal conditioning and 10-bit digital-to-analog conversion for the output of CCD arrays is performed by the VSP2101 video signal processor. The device is designed for use with high-resolution, megapixel CCDs used in imaging systems, such as digital video and still cameras, PC/videoconferencing cameras, and security cameras. The IC provides low-voltage, low-power operation and excellent low-noise performance for connecting a sensor input to a DSP. It runs from a 2.7V to 3.6V supply and draws just 160 mW at 2.7V, making it a good choice for small, portable equipment by extending battery life. Low noise operation means improved picture quality. The chip's primary CCD channel provides correlated double sampling to extract the video information from the pixels. It delivers zero to +34 dB gain range with digital control for varying illumination conditions, as well as black level clamping for an accurate black reference.
