The Si570 and Si571 are the first user-programmable crystal oscillator (Si570) and voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (Si571) that can support any-rate frequency synthesis, according to Silicon Laboratories. Using patented DSPLL technology and an industry-standard I²C interface, users can program either device to generate any frequency from 10 MHz to 1.4 GHz at jitter levels of 0.3 ps rms. The oscillators can be reprogrammed an unlimited number of times. They are well suited for applications requiring frequency-flexible clock sources, including next generation networking equipment, wireless base stations, test and measurement equipment, HDTV video infrastructure, and high-speed data-acquisition equipment.

The oscillators are available in an industry standard, RoHS-compliant 5- by 7-mm surface-mount package with support for all common output formats (LVPECL, LVDS, CMOS, and CML). The devices offer three speed grades: 10 MHz to 1.4 GHz, 10 MHz to 810 MHz, and 10 MHz to 215 MHz. The Si570 Any-Rate XO is available with two temperature stability options, ±20 ppm and ±50 ppm. The Si571 Any-Rate VCXO has a wide selection of absolute pull range (APR) options—from ±12 ppm ±375 ppm—giving hardware designers increased flexibility when choosing the best device for an application. The oscillators support operation from ±40°C to 85°C.

The Si570 and Si571 are available now. Prices depend on speed grade and temperature stability. For quantities of 1000, the Si570 costs from $10.02 to $54.79. In similar quantities, the Si571 costs from $23.39 to $122.76.
