Combining control and translator functions into one 44-pin QFP, PCD-4500 motion control chip operates as a satellite µP to simplify motion design. It has typical output pulse frequencies up to 16 kHz. Move parameters such as distance, minimum speed, maximum speed, and accelerate/decelerate are downloaded to the chip, with the chip then calculating and producing a complete motion profile and outputing pulse signals to the drive chip. Unipolar and bipolar phase sequencing are available. Because the chip performs both control and translator functions, the burden on the µP is reduced, allowing it perform other operations.
