Low-Power Quad RS-422 Transmitters Are ESD Protected

Oct. 8, 2008
Quad 16.5-kV ESD-protected RS-422 transmitters offer wide supply-voltage ranges suitable for motor-control applications, process-control networks, telecommunications products, and factory automation systems.

A series of small-footprint quad 16.5-kV ESD-protected RS-422 transmitters offer wide supply-voltage ranges suitable for motor-control applications, process-control networks, telecommunications products, and factory automation systems. The ISL32179E, ISL32272E, and ISL32274E feature low-output leakage currents of just ±20 µA. They are designed to operate from 3.3 or 5 V and at temperatures between ?40°C and 125°C. Data rates reach up to 32 Mbits/s, and quiescent current is only 0.8 mA, maximum. Slew-rate-limited versions are also offered, so low-data-rate applications can minimize EMI and transmission line reflections. Shutdown supply current is as low as 60 µA on the QFN package versions. Driver (Tx) outputs are tri-statable, and incorporate a hot-plug feature to keep them disabled during power-up and power-down. The ISL32272E and ISL32274E are available now in 16-lead TSSOP and 16-lead SOIC packages, with prices starting at $1.60 each in 1000-piece units. The ISL32179E comes in a 24-lead, 4- by 4-mm QFN package, with prices starting at $1.73 each in 1000-piece quantities. The QFN version includes a VL pin to adjust the logic-pin output thresholds.
