An ultra-high resolution encoder option with operation at unprecedented speed is available for the SmartMotor line of brushless dc servomotors. As with all SmartMotors, the controller, amplifier, encoder, PLC, power supplies and a network manager are all built into the unit. Now, sizes 23 and 34 are available with the -VRE option, which stands for variable resolution encoder. The unit can be programmed to increase its resolution to as high as 256,000 counts/rev.The maximum resolution can be retained even at motor speeds as high as 5000 rpm. Most high-resolution encoders are speed-limited because the data can’t be transmitted back to the controller fast enough. Building the controller into the motor housing eliminates this problem.
