According to the company in reference to its pancake-style, planetary gear train motors, for a given size motor, the larger the size of the rotor, the greater the torque capability will be. One approach to high-torque pancake motor design is to take advantage of the space available inside the rotor.By using this excess space to house a single stage planetary gear train, a pancake motor can be constructed that is just 3.15" in diameter and only 0.5" thick. Built in this manner, the motor is said to be capable of delivering over 100 oz.-in. of torque. In the photo, the front cover was removed from the motor to expose the planetary gear train.
