Resulting from the paired talents of dc-motor maker FAULHABER Group and Avago Technologies, FAULHABER’s PA2-50 rotary encoder debuts in a compact 6-mm diameter package, laying claim to be the smallest to date. The miniature rotary encoder incorporates Avago’s AEDR-8400 optical chip on a flex-circuit to produce a single package measuring 3 mm x 3.28 mm x 1.26 mm. Motor connections are integrated into the flex circuit to ensure a compact solution. The encoder consumes 8 mA at 3 Vdc, allegedly making it more suitable for battery-operated applications than conventional 5V encoders. AVAGO TECHNOLOGIES, San Jose, CA. (800) 235-0312.
