Providing simultaneous vector-motor and application control in air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators, the TX19A70 microcontroller family relies on a MIPS R3000A architecture and a recently developed 32-bit RISC TX19A core. The devices include both the 32-bit MIPS32 instruction-set architecture and the MIPS16e application-specific extensions. Most instructions are executed in a 17.8 ns cycle and each execution unit, 32-bit ALU, 32-bit MAC, and 32-bit shift, can execute an instruction in a single cycle. For three-phase PWM outputs, the MCUs provide a 16-bit width with a minimum time unit of 35.7 ns, a dead timer, and a shutdown protection function. Other features include an integrated, 10-bit a/d converter using sequential conversion and a variety of automatic conversion start functions that are synchronous to the PWM. Samples of flash memory versions, the TMP19A70FYFG and TMP19A70FYUG, are available now, priced at $18.15 each/100. TOSHIBA AMERICA ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 526-2400.
