Said to be unique in design, the SKM 36 SinCos servo-motor feedback system with HIPERFACE interface includes a gearbox with only three stages of operation, compared with five or six stages common to conventional multi-turn gearbox designs. The system's multi-turn rotary encoder tracks absolute position over 4,096 turns. Also deemed innovative, it employs the company's Mini-Disc technology that includes a track radius of just 2 mm. This reportedly permits full scanning of the entire code disc that compensates for errors common to conventional systems, effectively eliminating their negative effects on system performance. Additionally, the code disk is mounted in the center of the axis of rotation to reduce limitations to high angular velocities imposed by the code disk. SICK STEGMANN INC., Dayton, OH.
