Enabling direct trigger via an MCU, the BCR8LM-14LK high-commutation triac specifies an RMS on-state current of 8A and a repetitive peak off-voltage (VDRM) of 700V. The device drives loads such as AC motors, solenoids, and heaters in electric household appliances. It features a low gate trigger current of 12 mA or less, allowing it to be driven directly by a MCU and eliminating the need for an amplified circuit. Samples of the BCR8LM-14LK will be available in January 2012, priced at $1 each. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 382-7407.
