The STM32 Primer, a self-contained, pre-programmed evaluation package for the STM32 Flash microcontroller family, which is based on the ARM Cortex-M3 core, provides a "fun" introduction to serious development tools. A hand-held tool, the Primer features a compact, circular design with a window through which the STM32 chip is visible. With sample applications, it includes two games plus access to a dedicated on-line community for sharing resources and experiences. The package also includes a RIDE7 integrated development environment. Its graphical user interface with a 128 x 128 pixel color LCD employs MEMS-based position sensing to monitor forward, backward, left, and right tilt of the tool. These controls allow users to play the Maze and Breakout games. Battery powered and rechargeable through one of two USB connectors, programming and debugging capabilities come by way of Raisonance’s RIDE7 integrated development environment for up to 32 KB of code, which includes an unlimited GNU C/C++ compiler. Other hardware features include a footprint on the PCB for an IrDA transmitter and pads for adding peripherals. Price is $32. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
