Interfacing via an RS-232 connection, the SEL-3021 serial encrypting transceiver is designed to protect existing and new communications links between power-control centers, electrical substations, and generating plants. The module meets FIPS 140-2 security requirements and network perimeter security requirements set by FERC and NERC, allowing instrumentation and control systems to both operate and monitor critical infrastructure components. It uses AES Encryption with 128 bit keys, session authentication, and locks out unauthorized control.
