Taking advantage of built-in and external 8051 peripherals can be a chore given the wide range of MCU parts available. Hi-Tech Software's Hi-Tech C for 8051 version 9.01 tackles the problem with its peripheral wizard support to create header files to a range of peripherals. The package also includes the Hi-Tide IDE that's integrated with the wizard and C compiler. A version for Texas Instruments' MSP430 is also available. The Hi-Tech C for 8051 and the Hi-Tech C for MSP430 go for $950. This price includes three months of tech support. The development tools run on Windows, Linux, and Unix.
