Stockholm, Sweden and Seoul, Korea: LG Electronics selected Ericsson to provide mobile broadband modules based on high-speed packet access (HSPA). The modules will be used in LG’s next-generation notebooks and netbooks slated for release this year.
HSPA is recognized as the most commercially deployed technology for mobile broadband. It is a collection of mobile telephony protocols that extend and improve the performance of existing UMTS protocols. Two standards have already emerged—HSDPA and HSUPA—and HSPTA+ will soon be released. More than 200 HSPA networks now exist globally, serving more than one billion subscribers.
