Low-Power Multicore HMI Enhances Multimedia Experience

A scalable multicore platform developed by Ambedded Technology combines the ARM Cortex-A9 architecture with the latest in 2D and 3D graphics plus high-definition video to create a new level of multimedia performance. The open-frame human machine interface (HMI) Jupiter CA9 series, powered by Freescale’s i.MX6 application processor, features single-, dual-, and quad-core families based on the Cortex-A9. The platform supports up to 1080p video playback. A 3D 1000-Mpixel/s graphics engine with four shaders in the CA-9 quad- and dual-core versions provides up to 200 Mtransfers/s to create ultra-vivid, realistic graphics. Four different high-brightness LCDs (7, 10.1, 15, and 21.5 in.) come with a touch-panel assembled on a metal open-frame chassis. Memory comprises 1 Gbyte of DDR3 and 4 Gbytes of NAND flash. I/O interfaces include USB, Gigabit Ethernet, audio, RS-232/-485, GPIO, I2C, SATA, micro SD, and CAN bus, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and video-capture modules. Free board supporting packages are available for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Ubuntu Linux (pre-installed Android or Linux as user’s options).
