The XBee XTender wireless-bridge module is capable of extending the range of ZigBee and 802.15.4 networks up to 40 miles, further than 100' to 300' restriction common to ZigBee modems. The multi-band unit permits shorter-range, 2.4-GHz XBee networks

The XBee XTender wireless-bridge module is capable of extending the range of ZigBee and 802.15.4 networks up to 40 miles, further than 100' to 300' restriction common to ZigBee modems. The multi-band unit permits shorter-range, 2.4-GHz XBee networks operating under the ZigBee or 802.15.4 wireless personal area network (WPAN) standards to communicate via a 900-MHz, 1W XTend RF modem. It can transmit through obstacles that would otherwise impede devices communicating via ZigBee/802.15.4. The module, enclosed in an aluminum housing, includes two half-wave dipole antennas. Additional antenna options are available, which interface via RPSMA ports. Available in December, single-unit price starts $399. MAXSTREAM INC., Lindon, UT. (866) 765-9885.
