With the launch of Windows CE .NET 4.2, OEMs are said to have an advanced real-time operating system with powerful tools for creating next-generation smart, connected devices that integrate in small footprint sophisticated voice, video and data functionality. Among the new feature sets that this latest version of Windows CE .NET can add to the devices are gateway, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and set-top box functionality, along with faster performance and greater application compatibility for consumer and commercial embedded devices. The revised RTOS also offers improved security and kernal enhancements, including a faster compression engine and flexible cache flushing, as well as enhanced multimedia and browsing capabilities.
