The MAX17088 is a power-management IC (PMIC) that integrates a boost regulator, a programmable VCOM calibrator with nonvolatile memory, a high-current operational amplifier, and a level-shifting scan driver for notebook LCD panels. Developed with a high-voltage BiCMOS process, this device includes all functions required to power the LCD source drivers, gate drivers, and VCOM backplane. The boost regulator has a 1.2-MHz switching frequency and integrates a 20-V, 150-milliohm power MOSFET. It delivers output voltages up to 18 V from a 1.8-V to 5.5-V input while achieving greater than 85% efficiency. The integrated operational amplifier drives the VCOM backplane and features ±150-mA short-circuit current with a 40 V/microsecond slew rate. An integrated scan driver drives from -25 V to +45 V and allows output charge sharing to save power. The two-wire, I2C-controlled VCOM calibrator provides seven-bit setting accuracy and minimizes connector pin count. The MAX17088 is available in a 6-mm x 6-mm 36-pin TQFN package and is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices start at $1.25 in 1000-unit lots.
