Real-time requirements are said to be satisfied with the release of ORBexpress Real-Time, which goes beyond the latest CORBA standard by adding architecture and features that are essential for applications with tight deadlines. Used with a predictable transport such at IEEE 1394 or ATM, and a real-time operating system (RTOS) such as VxWorks or LynxOS, the object-request-broker software creates an environment suited to building fast, reliable distributed systems. Even with a non-real-time OS or an unpredictable transport, the program can provide the high performance for soft applications, it's claimed. The objective interface product respects RTOS scheduling, queueing, and locking capabilities and allows the developer to take full advantage of them.
