The PC and embedded computing worlds are converging rapidly, with the main point of convergence being Internet-enabled devices such as NetTVs, personal Internet access devices, Web phones, wireless PDAs and other smart devices. To help designers get started on smart consumer electronics designs, a freely distributed reference platform design is available for a Web-enabled PDA. The reference design package is comprised of the firm's pSOS+ real-time operating system and core software components, along with hardware and software developed by parners in the firm's VANTAGE IA technology alliance program. The program furnishes designers with technology and expertise needed to bring Internet-enabled products to market quickly and efficiently, it's claimed. With minimal added technology, designers can create highly customized products based on the reference design. In addition to ISI's RTOS, the reference design is based on Mitsubishi Electric's virtual remote personal computer hardware design and embedded M32R CPU; Sun Microsystems' pJava; and Espial Group's e-mail and personal information management software. The reference design is distributed free with purchase of ISI's pSOS+ RTOS.
