An asynchronous serial communications card, the Model LPCI-Com-8SM eight-port, low-profile universal PCI card includes a breakout cable with eight DB-9 connections. This eliminates the need for an expensive breakout box. It meets the MD2 low-profile PCI Bus Specification and can be installed in any 3.3V or 5V PCI or PCI-X slot. Included on the card are a 16750 UART and a 64-byte FIFO buffer to protect against signal loss in multitasking systems. An auto-RTS feature simplifies half-duplex RS-485 communications. The card is supported by all operating systems and includes free software for DOS, Linux and Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP. This includes sample programs and source code in C and Pascal for DOS, and in Visual Basic, Delphi and C++ Builder for Windows. A Windows terminal program simplifies verification of proper operation. Prices range from $224 to $519 each depending on the number of serial ports. ACCES I/O PRODUCTS INC., San Diego, CA. (858) 550-9559.
