Described as a first of its kind, the company's small form-factor, pluggable (SFP) transceiver is capable of moving data at Gigabit Ethernet speeds over Category 5, unshielded twisted-pair copper cable. This promises to eliminate the need for special copper or fiber-optic cabling. The transceiver can accommodate LAN backbones or drops in excess of the 100m standard. It employs a proprietary RJ-45 connector that integrates the magnetic coupling circuitry required by the Ethernet physical layer specification. Operation is from a single 3.3V supply and EMI and RFI protection is achieved via a die-cast metal housing. The case features a unique ejector latch for removing the transceiver and is available in any color for ease of identification.
