Cleanroom Java VM Released
The PERC 3.1 is an independently developed Java virtual machine and tool suite. Its new treeshaker tool automates class and method pruning that can cut application size by 20% to 40%. The tools and VM support a mix of interpreted and compiled code, including code generated by the Ahead-of-Time (AOT) compiler. The garbage-collection support allows optimization of priority and scheduling.

The task scheduler now supports priority inheritance that ensures predictable execution of high-priority threads. The VM supports the Java debug wire protocol (JDWP) for remote debugging using JDWP-compliant debuggers, such as Metrowerks CodeWarrior, IBM Visual Age Micro Edition, Sun Microsystems Forte, Borland Jbuilder, and jdb Java debuggers. PERC supports Java standards like the Java native interface (JNI), so developers can integrate Java with C/C++.
