The AC4868 transceiver debuts as one of the few RF modules to gain European approval for use in the highly restricted 868-MHz, spread-spectrum band. By design, the device provides OEMs with license-free communications over distances up to 15 km, offering an affordable alternative to products operating in the saturated 433-MHz band. It is also said to be the only certified 868-MHz transceiver to deliver the maximum allowable output power of 250 mW. Employing the company's RF232 robust transparent protocol, which promises seamless cable-to-transceiver replacement, the transceiver supports a range of communication architectures. These include point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, or peer-to-peer. Dynamic serial firmware manages over-the-air issues such as error detection, multi-path concerns, link verification, and interference. Standard features include an input voltage from 3.3V to 5.5V, data rates up to 76 kb/s, and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Single-unit price starts below $85 with volume pricing down to $60 each. AEROCOMM INC., Lenexa, KS. (913) 492-2320.
