It supports the real-time interfaces defined in the IEEE Posix standard 1003.1b- and .1c and is designed for maximum real-time performance and functionality.
Targeting PowerPC computers, features include open systems standards, a preemptive and multithreaded reentrant kernel, symmetric multiprocessing support, an interrupt response time of less than 8 ms, minimal process dispatch latencies, and single-vendor support for the operating system, compilers and software development tools.
