Load Cell Uses Spring Mechanical Energy Immune To Off-Axis Loading

Whereas traditional tension/compression shear beam load cells are vulnerable to off-axis loading, Helix load cells use a spring that converts a load force to a torsional moment in a wire to overcome these limitations. The torsional reaction travels through the wire from the top of the helix to the bottom, where it is again converted to a linear reaction force. Through measurement of this torsional moment, the Helix load cell can provide accurate load data regardless of asymmetrical or off-axis loading to eliminate the need for expensive load cell mounting structures and rigid scale bridge structures. Capacities range from 100 to 18,000 lb. and sizes start at 0.5" diameter x 0.55" high.
