Design engineers seeking high-density circuit protection for USB applications can look to a new line of transient voltage suppressors in the 0402 case size version. The miniature, surface-mount devices infuse high-end electrical performance into computer I/O ports, USB ports, infrared ports and links, and RF links. Based on the company's multilayer varistor technology, the chips supply bidirectional electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, electromagnetic-interference (EMI) attenuation, and subnanosecond response time. They're available for applications with circuit voltages up to 18 V, with an energy rating of 15 mJ. Pricing starts at $0.045 each, depending on volume.
