The first physical synthesis tool with support for Altera’s Stratix III family of FPGAs is now available. Mentor’s Precision RTL Plus synthesis suite has been benchmarked by Altera as providing performance gains of over 8% compared with Mentor’s Precision Synthesis tool. Thus, Mentor claims the Precision RTL Plus product can help users achieve faster timing closure, which could lower overall FPGA design development costs.

The Precision Synthesis family offers comprehensive language support, including SystemVerilog. It comprises an advanced ASIC prototyping flow with automatic incremental synthesis. Designers can cross-probe between multiple views as well as perform interactive static timing “what-if” analyses.

Mentor’s support for Stratix III devices is available now with the Precision 2007a Update 1 and later versions, and it is compatible with Altera Quartus II design software version 7.2 and above.
