Groomed for 1-mm pitch, 1,156-pin BGA devices, the SG-BGA-6230 socket accommodates a 35 mm x 35 mm package size and operates at bandwidths up to 8 GHz with less than 1 dB of insertion loss. The socket dissipates up to several Watts without extra heat sinking and can handle up to 100W with a custom heat sink. Contact resistance is typically 20 milliOhms per pin and the socket connects all pins with a 10-GHz bandwidth on all connections. Additionally, it mounts on the target PCB with no soldering. Single-unit pricing for the SG-BGA-6230 is $1,009. IRONWOOD ELECTRONICS, Burnsville, MN. (800) 404-0204.
