Designed to meet environmental guidelines outlined by Eco-label initiatives such as the German Blue Angel, EU White Flower Eco-label, and Nordic White Swan, the non-halogenated flame retardant compounds (NHCs) offer low smoke emission during combustion. They also claim to present a lesser threat of corrosion to metals and circuitry than comparable materials. The specific gravities of non-halogenated compounds are said to be lower than comparable brominated or chlorinated systems in many cases, resulting in a lower cost per volume and reduced part weight.
