The company’s B-type mini-USB connector has now been joined by mini A-type and mini AB-type connectors. The mini-USB connectors’ size has been reduced by more than 60% compared to the standard USB connector, and they are said to be ideal for portable devices such as digital cameras, MP3 players and PDAs. Like their standard-sized USB counterparts, the A-type and the B-type are intended for use in host and peripheral devices, respectively. For devices with both host and peripheral capabilities, the AB-type connector accepts both A-type and B-type cables. All three mini-USB types are fully shielded and have indentations for exceptional grounding and mating retention. The insulator material is made from PA6T high-temperature thermoplastic and the contacts have 30 µ-inches gold on contact area. Pricing is $0.97 each/5,000. KYCON INC., San Jose, CA. (800) 592-6622.
