Although extruded silicone sponge profiles can not be manufactured in the USA due to certain legislation, their use is permitted and they are now available. Claimed to be softer than normal silicone extrusions, the silicon-sponge seal allows for lower closure forces while providing sealing action and protection against weak substrates. Working temperature range is from -60°C to +200°C. Available in custom shapes, users can tailor a gasket exactly to an enclosure design rather than having to make do with something less precise. These sealers are said to be suitable for use in exterior lighting, electronic enclosures, mobile communications, mass transit seals, and fire-sensitive applications as well as producing IP65-rated seals. Standard color is off-white, but they can also be pigmented to other colors.
