60-V Synchronous Buck-Boost LED Driver Delivers over 100 W

March 16, 2012
The LTC3791 is a synchronous buck-boost DC-DC LEWD driver and voltage controller that delivers over 100 W of LED power
The LTC3791 is a synchronous buck-boost DC-DC LED driver and voltage controller that delivers over 100 W of LED power. It accepts inputs of 4.7 V to 60 V and provides a settable output of 0 V to 60 V. Output-voltage accuracy is within ±2% and synchronous switching efficiency is over 98.5%.  Output LED current accuracy is ±6%. The device is designed for a wide variety of applications including automotive, industrial and architectural lighting. A 4-switch buck-boost controller operates from inputs above, below or equal to the output voltage making the LTC3791 suitable for automotive applications where the input voltage can vary dramatically during start/stop, cold crank and load dump scenarios. The device also features accurate rail-to-rail LED current sensing with a monitor output, pulse-wide modulation (PWM) operation, and analog dimming. Additionally, it has shutdown capability with programmable hysteresis and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and can deliver more than 100 W from a 38-lead thermally enhanced TSSOP package with exposed pads. The device is priced starting at $5.25 each/1000. A higher-temperature H grade version is available at $5.50 each as is a higher-reliability MP version at $14.75 each. All versions are available from stock.
