The R8C/33T group of microcontrollers (MCUs) incorporates an on-chip sensor-control unit (SCU) for capacitive-touch applications. The devices combine the features of the company’s R8C family of MCUs with on-chip hardware that implements sophisticated touch-sensor technology from Omron Corp. They offer 18 independent capacitive-touch channels, a wide range of peripheral functions, up to 32 kbytes of on-chip flash memory, and 4 kbytes of data flash memory with background operation. They are suited for creating embedded systems that combine enhanced user interfaces with full system control functions and capabilities. Primary applications include home appliances, security systems, thermostat control panels, medical devices, personal computers, audio/video components and office equipment. Besides the SCU, the R8C/33T MCUs include an R8C 16-bit CPU core, a data transfer controller (DTC) and a wide range of peripheral functions, including multiple serial interfaces, 8- and 16-bit timers, and up to 12 channels of analog-to-digital conversion, as well as high-current ports for direct LED control. The devices support 1.8 V to 5.5 V operation and are packaged in a 32-pin, 7-mm x 7-mm LQFP. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY CORP., San Jose, CA. (408) 382-7500.
