Collaboration Formed For Green LED Manufacturing

Leuven, Belgium and Osaka, Japan: Growing demand for brighter green LEDs is the driving force behind a joint agreement inked by IMEC and Taiyo Nippon Sanso. The main goal of their pact is to develop manufacturing technology for high-efficiency light-emitting diode (LED) devices.

Under the agreement, Taiyo Nippon Sanso and IMEC will develop high-efficiency green LED device manufacturing technology based on IMEC’s compound semiconductors device technology. These LEDs will find homes in a broad range of applications, such as high-vision LCD TV.

Research will be mainly carried out at IMEC’s facilities in Belgium, which specialises in strain engineering on large wafer diameter. IMEC is an independent nanoelectronics research institute, and Taiyo Nippon Sanso is a total solution provider in the compound semiconductor field.
