Driver Enlightens Two HB-LED Strings

Feb. 10, 2010
the MAX16838 emerges as the industry's only two-string high-brightness LED driver for automotive apps
Integrating a boost switching converter, two linear current sinks, and all necessary power MOSFETs, the MAX16838 emerges as the industry's only two-string high-brightness LED driver for automotive apps. It is able to optimize conversion efficiency, provide complete fault protection, and allow a 5000:1 dimming range-without any external components. Other features include LED fault, over-temperature, and over-voltage protections. Delivering up to 150 mA per string, the MAX16838 operates over a temperature range from -40°C to +125°C and accepts a 4.75V to 40V input range. Available in 20-pin, 4 mm x 4 mm TSSOP and TQFN packages, prices start at $1.45 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
