Dual EL Driver Fits In Small, 10-pin MSOP

The SP4490 is claimed to be the industry's first dual electroluminescent (EL) driver to come in a 10-pin MSOP. The single device drives two EL lamps independently, enabling backlighting in such devices as cellular phones, pagers, PDAs, and LCD modules. The device uses a single coil to generate ac voltage outputs up to 220 Vpp. The device features a low power standby mode that typically draws only 100 nA of current. A single external resistor is used to control the internal oscillator, providing control of lamp frequency over a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. Pricing starts at $1.02 each/10,000.
