A pair of switches combine a compact and rugged unmanaged Ethernet switch with Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) technology. The EKI-2525PA is a five-port, 24-V dc device and the EKI-2526PI is a six-port, wide-temperature version. Because of the telecommunications heritage of PoE and the standard’s requirement that PoE-compliant switches supply 48-V dc power, other devices require a 48-V dc power source. But the EKI-2525PA includes a dc-to-dc converter to boost the 24-V dc input to the 48 V dc needed to power PoE devices. For compatibility with non-PoE devices, each port automatically checks for compliance before supplying power. To aid in diagnosing issues with cables and attached devices, each Ethernet port is equipped with front-facing LED indicators that provide link, transmission speed, activity, and PoE output status. The switches come in a thin DIN-rail-mount metal chassis. They are ruggedized for demanding industrial applications, with redundant power inputs, 4000-V dc Ethernet ESD protection, and power line surge (EFT) protection of 3000 V dc. Operating temperature ranges of ?10°C to 60°C or ?40°C to 75° C are available. The switches are CUL (UL/CSA), CE, FCC, and RoHS/WEE certified. ADVANTECH, Cincinnati, OH. (800) 205-7940.
