An ultra-low profile surface-mount toroidal inductor has been encapsulated in high temperature plastic to provide a pick-and-place-compatible package. The ST series inductors range in height from 1.2 to 1.5 mm maximum. Small size, low dc resistance and high efficiency make the ST series ideal for use in dc/dc converters for portable electronics. The toroidal ferrite core allows an operating frequency to 1 MHz with high efficiency in an extremely small package. The toroidal core also minimizes the radiated field, allowing the inductor to be placed more closely to other components. The ST2006 series is available in inductance values from 1.1 to 22 µH with maximum dc resistance values from 0.028½ to 0.294½. Maximum current carrying capability is as high as 3A. Typical applications include wireless telephones, pagers, PDAs, handheld computers, white LED drivers, and computer PCMCIA cards.
