Stacked Multi-Port Modular Jacks Use Lightpipes

March 1, 2000

Maintaining signal integrity while reducing costs is said to be possible with the firm's stacked multi-port modular jacks with lightpipes. The design uses lightpipes to direct light from pcb-mounted LEDs to the front of the modular jacks to indicate system activity. The lightpipes and surface-mount LEDs in combination reduce EMI/RFI noise when compared to a modular jack with integral LEDs. The design reduces replacement costs as there are no LED modjacks that must be replaced when the LEDs fail. It also allows users to choose LED color. The jacks are suitable for networking systems, including hubs, routers, Ethernet switches, bridges, and ATM transmission equipment.
Tested in accordance with EIA/TIA 568A standards, the devices provide Category 5 level performance for Ethernet applications. The full-shielded housings feature panel grounds to optimize shielding effectiveness. Pricing is $9.97 each/25,000.
