Said to outperform EEPROM products, the FM24CL16 is the first in a line of nonvolatile, 3-V ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) products. When compared with serial EEPROM, the new FRAM product reportedly has 280X faster write speed and more than 10 billion write cycles. It offers dramatically lower power consumption while maintaining drop-in compatibility with industry-standard serial EEPROM. Its speed and high endurance also allow it to serve as expansion RAM for low-cost microcontrollers. Applications include palm-top computers, information appliances, home networks connected to the Internet, laser printers, electric meters, and telecom/networking equipment. In an 8-pin SOP, pricing starts at $0.78 each/10,000.
