Consumers with M.2 PCIe slots can gain access to a solid-state disk (SSD) with maximum sequential read speeds of 770 Mbytes/s and sequential write speeds of 625 Mbytes/s. Plextor’s M6e M.2 PCIe Gen2 x2 SSD also delivers random 4k read speeds that reach 105K, and random write speeds of 100K input/output operations per second (IOPS). Targeting modern gaming networks and the latest generation of M.2-compatible motherboards, the SSD gives gamers RAID-like performance without having to set up a RAID array. It reduces game starting times and keeps level loading times to a minimum. In addition, with more motherboards featuring PCIe M.2 slots, the M6e M.2 offers an ultra-fast storage option that bypasses the 6-Gbit/s limit of the SATA Rev 3.0 interface. The 2280 (80.0 by 22.0 mm) SSD incorporates a Marvell PCIe 9183 controller, onboard DDR DRAM cache, and Toshiba Toggle NAND flash memory. Mean time between failure (MTBF) is calculated at 2.4 million hours. The device is available in 128G, 256G, and 512G capacities.
