Seeking a home in emerging automotive powertrain systems that require complex, real-time control, the MPC5554 32-bit, microcontroller (MCU) relies on a PowerPC e500 core to deliver performance levels up to five times higher than its MPC500 predecessors. The MCU includes 2 MB of flash memory, an enhanced timer processor unit (eTPU), and a peripheral set tailored for both automotive and industrial applications. The non-volatile flash memory includes EEPROM emulation and can be read and written simultaneously while the eTPU provides high-level C programmability for enhanced timing functions. Other features include Nexus IEEE-ISTO 5001 Class 3 multi-core debug capabilities, a 1.25 µs, 5V 12-bit a/d converter, a 64-bit-wide crossbar switch that employs a 64-channel DMA controller, and compatibility with existing systems based on the MPC500 family. Sampling now, availability and pricing of the MPC5554 will be announced in Q4 2004. MOTOROLA INC., Austin, TX. (512) 895-2000.
