Two 8-bit Controller Area Network (CAN) microcontrollers in the PIC18F2580/2480 series are housed in 28-pin QFN packages measuring 6 mm x 6 mm. They include 16 KB or 32 KB of flash memory, an ECAN module, a 10-bit ADC and power management circuitry that includes sleep and idle modes to reduce power consumption. Other features are an internal clock source that provides a 32-kHz to 32-MHz system clock, fail-safe clock monitor for fail-safe operation, 1.5 KB of RAM and 256 bytes of high-endurance EEPROM data memory. The flash memory withstands over 100,000 erase/write cycles and has over 40 years of data retention capability. A full range of development tools is available to support microcontroller designs.
