Entering the microcontroller arena as an extension of the HC08 family, the HCS08 series of 8-bit flash MCUs promises to extend battery life via low-voltage operation with low current consumption and without a compromise in performance. The devices make use of multiple power management modes that include a 50 nA power-down mode and zero component auto-wakeup from stop mode. They operate at 20 MHz with a minimum instruction cycle time of 50 ns. Other features include third-generation, 0.25-µm flash technology that allows in-application reprogramming and the ability to use flash memory for data storage. In addition, the MCUs come with CodeWarrior development studio, special edition, with the Processor Expert environment. The first four devices in the series are available in production quantities now with 10 more devices planned for the near future.
