Optimized for industrial applications, the latest TriCore family devices include 8-bit, advanced 16-bit, and high-end 32-bit flash-based microcontrollers that promise to reduce system-level costs by up to 40%. The XC886 and XC888 8-bit devices integrate full CAN controller and LIN support on a single chip. They combine an enhanced 8051 core, up to 32 KB of embedded flash memory, and peripherals such as an intelligent PWM unit or a 10-bit a/d converter. Other features include a Multiplication Division Unit (MDU). The XC164SM and XC164LM 16-bit MCUs are code compatible with the C166 family, making for easy upgrades. In addition to an intelligent PWM unit, they feature 14-channel a/d converters, TwinCAN modules, 25-ns instruction times, and extended serial interfaces. For 32-bit applications, the TC1166 and TC1165 offer a performance increase of 66% over the company's TC1161/1162 devices. They operate at 80 MHz and in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C. Features include up to 1.5 MB of flash memory, flexible timer units, multi-channel a/d converters, a MultiCAN module on the TC1166, asynchronous/synchronous serial interfaces, and a micro link interface.
