Promising to trim power consumption and cooling chores, the MAX31782 system-management microcontroller (MCU) combines six temperature measurement channels with six channels of closed-loop fan control. Monitoring multiple temperature points throughout the system, the device allows users to implement precise zoned-cooling schemes. This minimizes system power consumption and cooling costs by individually adjusting the speed of each fan to deliver the exact amount of cooling required by each zone. Available in a 40-pin TQFN measuring 6 mm x 6 mm, price is $2.95 each/10,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
