With the goal of simplifying Bluetooth design chores, the XE1431 integrates an 8-bit microcontroller with an embedded Bluetooth controller. The MCU relies on the company's embedded-host architecture found in the EasyBlue device family. The device also includes an array of standard peripherals such as GPIOs, UART, audio CODEC, and a power management unit. Working independently, the embedded Bluetooth controller executes crucial sectors of the protocol stack, allowing development of application layer software without the need for integrity validation. External flash memory stores the application layer software. Additionally, for low-power applications, the device consumes less than 20 mW at 1.8V.
