The SH72531, a 120-MHz, 32-bit SuperH microcontroller, integrates 1.25 MB of flash memory and can implement the fine-grained control of automotive engines and transmissions necessary to achieve smooth, powerful performance and high efficiency with low emissions. Built with the same 90-nm process as the 200-MHz SH72544R, the SH72531costs less and consumes less power while meeting industry requirements for operation at temperatures as high as +125°C. The device employs a 32-bit CPU core with a FPU and achieves a 240 MIPS processing performance at 120 MHz. Operating at 3.3V/5V, the chip consumes 350 mW. Other features include an ATU-III multifunction timer, a 12-bit ADC, CAN interface, and a high-speed serial interface. Available in a 24 mm x 24 mm LQFP package with 176 pins, sample price for the SH72531 (R5F72531KFPV) is $87 each. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 382-7407.
