Getting a performance boost for emerging multimedia systems, the second generation SH7786 (R8A77860NBGV) dual-core, 32-bit processor delivers up to 1,920 MIPS when operating at 533 MHz. It integrates a DDR3-SDRAM memory interface for data transfers at speeds up to 4.27 GB/s while consuming less power than the previous version. The device integrates a dedicated 32-bit bus operating at 533 MHz for connecting to DDR3-SDRAM with an operating voltage of 1.5V. In addition, the 65-nm processor’s multiple PCI Express bus interfaces support data throughput rates up to 800 MB/sec. In terms of multimedia design support, a version of the E10A-USB on-chip debugging emulator with multi-core support is available as a development environment for the processor. It provides a range of simultaneous debugging functions including simultaneous execution, simultaneous break, and single-CPU break and re-execute. Other support environments include the QNX Neutrino RTOS and the QNX Momentics development suite. Available in the fourth quarter, sample price is $75. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA.
